Our Compost Source – Culterra

Culterra operates at true commercial scale. Their composting process relies primarily on tree and green waste supplied by commercial arborists. This material is stockpiled in massive heaps, allowed to mature, chipped, watered, and regularly turned.

The sheer volume of material, combined with high internal temperatures generated during composting, effectively destroys weed seeds and unwanted organisms. Any seeds that attempt to germinate after watering are eliminated during subsequent turning and re-heaping. The result is a stable, mature, weed-free compost.

Compost/Lawndressing Supply & Application

We collect compost in truckloads and deliver it directly to our clients’ properties. Nothing needs to be added. The product is fully matured, coarse compost, often blended with fine woodchip material. This combination:

Feeds garden beds gradually and consistently

This is not comparable to DIY or small-batch compost. We work with high-end clients and serious garden enthusiasts, and we do not compromise on inputs. We have used this product for over 20 years, and its quality continues to improve.

Lawndressing (Topdressing/Landscapers Mix)

Our lawndressing is produced using Culterra compost blended with sterile mineral materials. Depending on the application, we use:

River sand
Building sand

These materials contain no organic matter, eliminating the risk of weed contamination or microbial issues commonly found in poor-quality soil sources.

While Culterra produces their own professional lawndressing—and many large landscapers use it—we deliberately mix our own. This is not due to problems with their product, but because we require complete control over ratios and texture.

We tailor mixes to site conditions and client requirements, including:

50/50 soil-to-compost
40/60 or 20/80 in favour of compost
100% fine building sand where major levelling is required

In situations where pure mineral material is used, we apply organic fertilisers separately to ensure proper nutrition. This approach is standard practice for golf courses, school grounds, and large turf areas where flatness, compaction, and performance are critical.

Our woodchip mulch is supplied directly from Culterra and is fully composted and well matured. This is a key distinction.
